Why is my image quality downgraded in Email Marketing?

Using External Image URLs to Preserve Image Quality in Marketing Emails

When creating marketing emails, each email is assigned a file size based on the amount of text, images, and other content included within the message. If an email becomes too large, some receiving email servers may reject the message or prevent it from being delivered successfully.

To help improve email deliverability, the Inspire by STX Drag and Drop Email Editor may automatically compress uploaded images to reduce the overall email file size. While this helps improve delivery rates, it can also reduce image quality.

If you would like to preserve the original quality of your images, you can use an external image URL instead of uploading the image directly into the email editor.

How to Use an External Image URL

Step 1: Upload Your Image to an Image Hosting Service

Upload your image to a trusted image hosting website and copy the direct image URL.

Example Image URL: https://ibb.co/JrnrSkm

Step 2: Add an Image Element to Your Email Template

  1. Navigate to Marketing > Templates.
  2. Open an existing template or create a new template using the Drag and Drop Email Editor.
  3. Drag an Image element into your email template.

Step 3: Replace the Image Source

  1. Hover over the image within your template.
  2. Click the Link/Image Source button.
  3. Remove the existing image source value.
  4. Paste your external image URL.
  5. Click OK to save your changes.

Benefits of Using External Image URLs

Using an external image URL allows your email to reference an image hosted outside of Inspire by STX rather than embedding the image directly within the email. This can help:

  • Preserve the original image quality.
  • Reduce the overall email file size.
  • Improve email deliverability.
  • Minimize image compression within the email editor.

NotesNote: Ensure that the image remains available on the hosting service. If the image is deleted or the URL changes, the image will no longer display within your email campaign.
