Setup Services

Setup Services

Services are the appointments your business offers to clients. Before creating a service, make sure your Service Groups and Service Resources are set up.

Once a service is created, you must also assign it to the workers who provide that service.

Create a New Service
  1. Go to Setup > Setup Services.
  2. Select + New.
  3. Confirm the Active checkbox is enabled.
    • The service must be active to be available for booking.
  4. Enter the Service Name.
  5. Select the Service Group where you want the service to be listed.
  6. Select the Taxable checkbox if you want tax to be added to the service at checkout.
    • When enabled, the applicable tax will be calculated and added when the service is checked out.
  7. Select Use Multiple Price Levels if different workers will have different pricing and/or service durations for this service.
    • You can create up to 10 price and duration levels.
    • Helpful Tip: Keep track of which price level applies to each worker. This will make it easier when assigning the service to workers.
  8. Select Add-On Service if the service should be available as an additional service that can be added to another appointment.
NotesNote:  When a Add-On Service is enabled; durations will not be required.  An Add-On Service is a service adding additional cost to a client ticket for this service being added, with NO Additional Time added to the appointment calendar.
Price & Duration
IdeaDisplay Price is the price that will appear on the receipt and include the Non-Cash Payment amount. If you're interested in a Cash Discounting program, contact our STX Payments department at 1-800-766-4778 or explore STX Payments online at https://stxsoftware.com/payments/#payments2.
  1. Enter the Set Price.
    • If Non-Cash Payments are enabled, the Display Price includes the applicable Non-Cash Payment amount.
  2. Enter the Duration.
    • Enter the number of minutes required to perform the service.
  3. Optional Check Off Doublebook if another appointment can be booked with the worker during the same duration time.
    • This is commonly used for services such as color appointments where the worker may be able to accommodate another client during part of the service.
  4. Optional Enter a Buffer After, if needed.

    • Buffer time keeps the worker occupied after the service ends.
    • The client may continue to another service during the buffer, but the worker will remain unavailable for another appointment until the buffer ends.
NotesExample: A 60-minute massage begins at 2:00 PM with a 15-minute Buffer After. The massage ends at 3:00 PM, but the worker remains occupied until 3:15 PM.

  5. Optional Enter a Service Fee.
    • A service fee can be entered as a percentage or dollar amount and can be used with Worker Compensation Methods.
    • This is commonly used to account for costs associated with providing a service, such as color or product costs.

Additional Service Options

The following options are optional and can be configured based on how you want the service to function.

  1. Add Finishing Services, if applicable.
    • Finishing Services can be used to add additional services that are completed after the primary service.
  2. Enter a Guest Charge Amount, if applicable.
    • This amount is automatically deducted from the service amount.
    • It can be used to account for operational or material costs associated with providing the service.
  3. Enter an Online & Client-Facing Name, if you want the service to display differently to clients online.
    • If left blank, the regular service name will be used.
  4. Enter an Online & Client-Facing Description, if desired.
    • Clients can view this description when selecting the service online.
    • An ⓘ information icon will display the description.
    • Select the AI button for alternative suggestions for your online service name and description.
  5. Select Deposit Required, if you want clients to pay a deposit when booking the service online.

    • Enter the deposit as a percentage or dollar amount.
    • The deposit is collected when the appointment is booked and can be applied toward the client's balance at checkout.
Warning
Important Note: An integrated credit card processing account is REQUIRED to collect online deposits.

Resources & Display Order
  1. Assign a Resource, if the service requires a specific resource to be available when the appointment is booked.
    • Any: Only one resource from the selected list is required.
    • All: All selected resources are required.
  2. Enter a Display Order, if desired.
    • Display Order determines where the service appears in lists and booking screens.
    • Services are displayed in numerical order first, followed by alphabetical order for services without a display order.
  3. Review your service settings and select Save.
Idea
Important: Assign the Service to Workers Creating a service does not automatically make it available for a worker to book. After creating the service, you must assign it to each worker who provides that service. Visit Setup > Setup Worker Details.
